About Pip & Art Studio 48

Pip Edwards is a professional painter, mosaic artist and teacher.
She established Art Studio 48 from her home studio in Glen Waverley, Melbourne, which has been providing art
classes, mosaic workshops and specialist school holiday programmes since 2002.

Pip has enjoyed a diverse and interesting art career including children’s book illustration, public mural art and teaching art in a number of different art schools and Neighborhood Houses.

Exhibitions, both solo and group around Melbourne, and awards and acknowledgements of her talents over the years have been numerous, including being the award winner of Masterpiece in a Day at MGA  in 2005.

In 2009 as a personal challenge, Pip completed a pilgrimage across Spain walking 800 km in 4 weeks.

More recently, through Pips love of mosaics, she has been involved in a number of Community Art Projects  and commercial commissions, including Highway Gallery Monash, Port Phillip Housing Association Chadstone, Kerry Neighborhood House and the Minerva Floor insert for the Ballarat Mechanics Institute.

I started my own art teaching studio in 2002. I wanted to create an inspiring and creative environment for my students, and also be able to use it for my own work. The studio is relaxed and informal, surrounded by garden and facing onto a park. There are always animals for children to interact with, if they want to, and a garden that is full of mosaic art. I like to think that Nature, animals and art, are the perfect combination for bringing out your child’s confidence and creativity.

TESTIMONIALS

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 half days with Pip Edwards doing the adult mosaic workshop, at Art Studio 48. Pip is an excellent teacher. She guided me through the design process to start my creation. I had some ideas but she helped me build on them. Pip has such an eye for colour, she can relate it to the piece whilst taking into account the environment where the mosaic will be displayed and what the piece means to the person, ( symbolically). Whilst I was working on my piece Pip did my personal colours that comes from my birth date that describes parts of my personality. It was truly a wonderful experience, incorporating art, creativity, lovely food and lots of laughs.

Iv’e just created something that looks just like a professional did it F……. Amazing! My 2 sessions with Pip were very enjoyable and I learnt so much, not just about mosaic, but also about art. Pip teaches mosaic as an artist. She talks about the importance of good composition, linking colours and the optical blending of different colours to produce new colours. The whole process is like painting a canvas, only with tiles! I would really recommend this course to anyone. You don’t need to be artistic to create something amazing. I feel very inspired by what Iv’e seen and learned.
